[[Episode 1]]
Here we go!
Apparently season 3 is where it just gets silly.
Menu is of the dock we last saw the Jack Pack on.
“Previously on Lost” is the history of the Others.
Started with a closeup of an eye. It appears to be Desmond’s love.
I’m sure we’ve heard her name, but until it reappears, she’s “Jill”.
Sounded like Locke’s voice repeating, looks like Ethan.
And now here’s Frank.
Are these the Others? Used to live on the Island?
Holy crap, this is great. Suburbia exists on the Island.
With book clubs and everything.
Ace opening. Little silly, but not too much.
Jack flashback episode, predictably.
I know he’s the main character, but he’s also one of the least interesting.
Except his Dad, I s’pose.
Aww, I was hoping that was an invisible forcefield, but it’s just a piece of glass.
Looks like they want to convert Kate, but they’re not particularly interested in Sawyer or Jack.
Jack’s in a cell, Sawyer’s in a cage.
Listen, I’m sure you’re going to tie it in beautifully, but right now I do NOT CARE about the Jack/Denise divorce!
He’s waiting – we’re going to meet Him! I have high hopes for it being someone awesome.
Predictions:
-Jack’s Dad
-Frank
-…oh, it’s Frank.
The budget seems to be one new set per season.
S2, the Hatch.
S3, the entire Other Village (hereafter referred to as “Weirdtopia”)
I am so damned tempted to fast-forward the Jack divorce scenes.
Unless Denise or Jack’s Dad turn up in the next few episodes…
Denise had better not have left Jack for his Dad.
There are so many problems with that, I don’t even want to begin.
The communication’s box saying Jack’s Dad’s words to him is a pretty nice link.
As long as it doesn’t turn out to be his imagination.
I’m not sure if I’m pro-Jack here.
He’s being defiant, which is manly and I can totally identify with him, but he’s also being a wank.
“You can trust me, Jack.”
Seriously, not comforting words from your captor.
Give him some kind of a reason to trust you first.
Carl is almost definitely one of the Others.
That is a much cleverer way of gaining a prisoner’s trust.
Anna used it in S2, in the pit.
Oh, bitch.
Horrible Other woman’s getting Least Likeable.
No idea what her name is but I hate her.
Although Denise and Jack’s Dad are almost equally deserving.
Rule 8 of family relations, do NOT sleep with your son’s wife.
Oh! Horrible Other woman wasn’t taunting, was just entering the room through the only door.
I retract Least Likeable.
I can do that.
I have the power.
I read somewhere that one punch/bash to the back of the head isn’t enough to knock someone out, no matter how many movies say it is.
Would like to make predictions, but I’ve really no idea what’s happening.
Prediction: Jack marries a sailor. Sawyer learns to knit.
So, it seems the outside world still exists. Likelihood of this entire show being Hurley’s hallucination is slim.
Okay, so Denise and Jack’s Dad weren’t together.
Denise is still being quite a rotter though.
I’ve not been divorced, but she seems horrid.
Frank’s name is Ben, Horrible Other Woman’s name is Juliet.
They too are having marital difficulties.
Most Likeable: Sawyer, for rocking so damned hard.
Least Likeable: Denise.
Most Intriguing: Juliet.
Prediction: next episode (or at least the one after) will be back at the beach with the Castaways.
I am genuinely in awe of this show’s writing. IF and only if it all comes together nicely, that is.
[[Episode 2]]
A Sun/Jin episode.
I knew we were due for one in the previous season, so this makes sense.
BTW, when did it go from 25 eps/season to 23?
“They have a boat. They could find us.”
Prediction: -Weirdtopia is on another island.
I really hope that Weirdtopia is what people were talking about when they said season 3 got silly, because I’m loving it.
If it is what people were referring to, then the show (for me) will stay good.
If it’s not, I’ve got dreadfulness to look forward to.
The Weirdtopians (“Others” doesn’t sound right now they’re suburban) knew about the Hatch, surely.
But didn’t they know about the boat?
Oh awesome! Sun and Mr Lee (“Jae”) are having an affair!
I love affairs (on TV), especially when they culminate in children.
Oh-oh! Bus-ted!
Many would be tempted to give Least Likeable to Sun, but I adore affairs too much to consider it. She might get Most!
I think at this point I would rebel, and refuse to do anything, let them shock me.
Maybe after the first few shocks I’d change my mind.
Interesting. Sun’s Dad convincing Jin to kill Sun’s boyfriend without telling him why, Jin refusing for moral reasons.
Clever writing.
I’m not much of a fan of this “breaking rocks” punishment.
Too stereotypical.
Lost can normally pull off cliches, but it’s not working here.
God damn Sayid rocks.
If Locke/Eko are dead, I’ll give him the Locke Award.
(New rule: someone has to have it at all times.)
Sun is cool. Affairs, other men’s babies, the constant constant lies.
All that Sun/Michael sexual tension seems to have been for no reason, thinking about it.
Juliet’s intriguing me at this point. I can’t quite work her out.
Also, Sawyer ROCKS. SO HARD.
Kate must be sick of constantly being a hostage.
I think in his situation, as sucky as it would have been, I would have risked Kate being shot, and just opened fire on the fuckers.
I am seriously beginning to believe that the Weirdtopians have a submarine.
Still no idea why they want children.
Intriguing fellows!
After Jin failed to assassinate him, Jae “fell off the balcony”.
I don’t think it was suicide.
I reckon Sun’s Dad sent a second assassin.
Weirdtopians said “He has a boat, he could get to us.”
Jack was being held underwater.
Fairly sure Sawyer/Kate are not.
The Others are all “We’re the good guys” without evidence.
Prediction: by the end of this season, I’ll agree that the Others/Weirdtopians ARE the good guys.
But against who? The Island? Polar bears?
They must have been fairly confident this show would be picked up for a long run.
There’s so much: what if they’d been cancelled in S1?
Sawyer picked a fight to work out their strengths.
He’s easily getting Most Likeable/AWESOME this ep.
Ben (nee “Frank”) is listening.
Ben’s the only character so far who has had 3 names from me.
I love how old-school all the technology is.
Old TV sets, dials instead of buttons, green-text computer.
“Shortcake” = cutest nickname yet.
Shortcake as in Strawberry Shortcake, ‘cos that’s what she tastes like.
I was watching Ben tell Jack about what’s happened in 60 days, and thought “Wow, they must have written this like on the night it aired!”
Forgot that in real life, it’s been 2 years since the show premiered.
Jack: “Why would you stay if you know how to leave?” Good Q.
Ben: “Do exactly what we say, you can get off the island.”
Odds are pretty good that he won’t, ‘cos the show goes for 3 more seasons.
TV: “The Boston Red Sox are world champions!”.
“World champions”.
Jesus, America.
I suppose whoever wins the Ashes is “world champion” at cricket too?
Episode end.
Most Likeable: Sawyer!
Least Likeable: Juliet. (tho she does have a cool name.) She gets Most Intriguing too.
[[Episode 3]]
Previously on deals with the non-Jack Pack characters.
Good idea, but I sort of want to know more what Jack Pack is up to.
Locke lives!!!
If Locke’s alive, odds are pretty good for Desmond and Eko as well, right?
Locke’s a mute. Thought he was reparalysed at first.
I continue to love Locke’s “The Island sends messages” philosophy.
Prediction: Jack + Weirdtopians vs Locke + The Island happens.
Charlie’s reusing his “you don’t call, you don’t write” line.
Get a new line, Charlie!
Where’re Desmond and Eko?
They off being mute and building structures as well?
Things I am completely baffled about:
-how the Others do the whispery thing
-the giant statue’s foot
-why they want kids
-compasses
Aww, Charlie’s all “I detest you.” How can anyone detest Locke?
Unless detest means “want to give a cuddle to.”
I’ve always wanted to hitch-hike.
Is it as dangerous as some people say, or is that all hype?
Locke’s flashbacks. He’s still not paralysed.
Is hitchhiking illegal? Is that because it’s dangerous?
Only in America or here (Australia) too?
Charlie is being hilarious this episode. Strong contender for Most Likeable.
Seriously didn’t recognise Boom then. Confused me briefly.
The thing I like least about Locke is his “Boom was a sacrifice the island demanded” thing. It doesn’t sit right with me.
Someone’s got Eko!
It’s up to Locke to save his partner Eko!
Then they can continue guarding bodies and busting mysteries!
Doesn’t make sense for it to be the Others who have him.
OMG IT’S A POLAR BEAR.
LOCKE IS SAVING EKO FROM A POLAR BEAR.
BEST EP EVER.
Eddie looks really familiar. Can’t place him.
IMDb tells me he’s Goku in Dragonball Evolution. That’s the only thing I’ve even heard of, but I haven’t seen it.
Question: How did Eko, Locke and (presumeably) Desmond survive the Hatch’s imposion?
Or am I just meant to accept that they did without questioning it?
TOO LATE FOR THAT, SHOW
QUESTIONING HAS BEGUN
Haha, a polar bear!
Also: Locke almost killed Hurley with a knife.
This is such a cool episode.
I brake for polar bears.
The writers have actually been really good about the Aussie/British references. Charlie just said “The Beeb”.
Like 1% of Yanks would get that.
Is this commune making drugs?
‘Cos I think I’ve seen this episode in like 10 different series now.
Eddie’s theory was making bombs from the fertiliser.
That’s a much better theory, but Locke laughed it off. Damn.
Why cover yourself in mud as a disguise if you enter with a lit torch?
That is dumb, Locke.
Also: Charlie continuing to be hilarious.
This seems like no ordinary polar bear cave.
Unless…do polar bears play with trucks?
If they do, this is just an ordinary polar bear cave.
Oh. The commune was, indeed, making drugs.
That is extraordinarily disappointing.
Prediction:
-in this cave, John finds a whole new group of people. Several join the regular cast.
Okay, cool. He found a polar bear instead.
I’d complain, but I will never ever complain about polar bears on this show.
Theory: if kids on this island don’t get their regular shots, they turn into POLAR BEARS.
Problems with this episode:
1) Flashbacks have no relation to regular plot.
2) Still no explanation as to why he was disabled.
Admittedly, there’s still room for both of those issues to be addressed.
I hope that both answers involve polar bears.
God, it would be so great if Locke was wheelchair bound because of a polar bear attack.
That would automatically win best ep of season.
How’re they going to fix Eko with no doctor?
Even the psychologist is dead.
Suppose they’ve still got the dentist…
Spanish extra on the beach just got 2 lines.
Other characters disappearing means there’s room for more speaking roles, I guess.
Oooh! Desmond can tell the future.
ANOTHER MYSTERY.
Episode end!
Most Likeable: Charlie.
Least Likeable: hmm. All pretty likeable. Will give it to Spanish extra, for stealing lines.
Most Intriguing: Eko: Live or die??
Messages I got from other people reading my tweets:
Abrams & Lindelof devised an endgame early on, but much of S2&3 are what writers might call ‘padding.’
It’s a trap!
the amount of tarps on the island is ridiculous, and where did they get that shovel and axe?! home depot on the island?
Thinking about Lost: The show’s essentially split itself in two.
Weirdtopia is the sci-fi half, the castaways the spiritual/fantasy half.
I prefer the sci-fi half, but can definitely appreciate the spirituality (Locke!!)
Especially since they introduced it, can’t abandon it now.
